FINALS' Q:2 All about Decision Support Systems (DSS)

1.DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS(DSS)
> are specific class of computerized information system that supports business and organizational decision-making activities.

2.Distinguish DSS from MIS.
> A DSS is an interactive software-based system intended to help decision makers compile useful information from raw data, documents, personal knowledge, and/or business models to identify and solve problems and make desicions,this systems can enhance management understanding of business operations and managers perceive that this is useful. What is not always evident is the financial benefit from . While the MIS it is used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization.

3. Illustrate (give examples) how DSS can improve company's competitive advantage and organizational performance.

a) Time savings. It increased employee productivity and more timely information for decision making.
b) Enhance effectiveness. It perceived decision quality rather than objective measures.
c) Improve interpersonal communication. DSS provide a means for sharing facts and assumptions.
d) Competitive advantage.It creates a competitive advantage over competition to other competitor.
e) Cost reduction. Some research and especially case studies have documented DSS cost saving from labor savings in making decisions and from lower infrastructure or technology costs.
f) Increase decision maker satisfaction. DSS may reduce frustrations of decision makers, create perceptions that better information is being used and/or create perceptions that the individual is a "better" decision maker.
g) Promote learning. Learning can occur as a by-product of initial and ongoing use of a DSS.
h) Increase organizational control. Data-driven DSS often make business transaction data available for performance monitoring and ad hoc querying. increasingly detailed data.
